I am a painter who has chosen abstraction as my artistic language; working primarily in acrylic, and mixed media. I am constantly adapting my process to embrace my interest with all things textural, sculptural, and organic. My practice will certainly always include my lifelong connections with drawing, composition and a deep desire to make so sense out of where art and science intersect..
Having spent most of my life in New England my work is deeply impacted by the local topography, and sense of historical context. My key themes tend to remain constant: I am interested in the human spirit's drive towards authenticity. Conversely, what happens when that is not present in people's lives. Also, I often explore while working our spiritual likenesses. As already mentioned I frequently look to nature as my jumping off point in terms of subject matter; albeit abstracted.
I have been creating art my entire life; however as a young mother I suffered a major traumatic brain injury which changed the course of my life & career. I had to completely retrain myself to do most things. I had two small children to raise. This essentially putting a swift end to my professional art practice for several decades. Now essentially fully recovered I use this "gift" as I see it as another vehicle to understand the world and human condition.
.I hold a BFA in Art History, and Studio Art from Fairfield University and a Masters Degree from Montclair State University in Art Education. I have traveled the world studying art and art history in places like: Italy, France and Greece. I have been featured in many new papers and on television. During the time that I was doing my rehabilitation and child rearing I spent twenty years practicing Interior Design as the owner of: "At Home Design." Subsequently I have shown in galleries throughout New England. My are has been featured as part of "ArtWalks," and alike. I have been credited with inventing a "new medium:" 3-D Contemporary art: a cross between two and three dimensional art.
Nature. How nature is effected by light and the seasons. I invented this medium as a cross between 2-D & 3-D art as a way of telling a new story. One where the viewer is drawn to the piece as a painting and as a sculpture at the same time. This excites me as an abstract painter. When I choose my pigments (fibers). The process is much the same as if I were using tubes of liquid paint. The idea that one can walk around this bas relief of a painting which breaks through tabu thrills me! This concept has many commercial uses as in Interior Design as it can function as a sound blocker and a physical one as well. All while adding so much to the designer's plan.
I have been drawing since I could hold a pencil; this is how I center myself. My love of pen and ink was a natural outgrowth of my need to highlight the simplicity of line, shape and what one can do with just the use of contrast.
My drawings, like my paintings are sculptural in many ways. I chip away at a concept that I am imagining until I arrive at that which I think is purely essential. I consume information about artists who, like myself have found the organic form intriguing and strove to break it down like: Matisse and Picasso,
My collages help me to express my need to speak to the concept of the Jungian collective… we are all connected. There are truly no new concepts, only new connections pieced together; quite literally when doing collage.
Collage is also a great way to synthesize many of my interests into one plane.
I enjoy working with people from all over the world; getting to know them. Hearing about how they envision my work in their life. I am curious about all of it: a corporate piece, a piece of art for a home, or a piece of art for t business etc. I love to see the moment when a client's eyes light up when our collaboration has been a success!
.
Simple. When I am creating with the fibers, I have a palette full of pigment. I am carefully picking and choosing which colors and how much will get used. It’s a very exciting process.
As if I were using liquid paint in tubes. I wrap and re-wrap in just the right proportions. I blur when I need to blur. I make the pigment more intense when necessary.
To watch the process is to see any fine artist paint at work. I have just extrapolated the painting process to another level.
People have been painting with pastels for years, and they’re not a liquid.
